This is a series of photos called "Selfportrait in interior" where the photographer Ivan Mikhaylov uses a popular genre -selfportarait. Once again he is trying to address such issues as the role of an individual in a modern society, and the relationship between a person and his surrounding world. In his project Ivan used interior of a modern appartment as a background. He didn't make this interior up, it's real, recognizable, very common modern housing. The main theme throught the scenes is everyday routine actions which the character performs in a familiar home environment where he feels comfortable and safe, where he doesn't need to be perfect or follow certain rules and regulations. But behind these simple scenes, some of them being probably too trivial, you can definitly see author's point, his self-irony.These mini scenes created with the method of spherical perspective help to intensify the effect of importance and unity of everything going on. Ivan Mikhaylov by using classic black and white, light and shadow, through the process of "observing himself", shared his idea of the "life cycle" which exists both in nature and in everyday life of every person. Yury Evlampev, the curator of the exhibition "Observing yourself". 2007.
